Our Love of Cross Stitch started around 25 years ago when one Christmas I received a kit for Christmas. I can remember it clearly, a small black and white cat, with a tree in the background. It was done in wool onto a plastic canvas with a red frame. It wasn’t very big, but it was enough to get me hooked!
I had completed the kit within an hour so my Mum took me to an old fashioned shop in Sunderland called Chippy’s. I can still remember the shop clearly and picking out my first ‘proper’ tapestry which was a A4 size picture of some blue flowers. I had completed that within a few months and my lifelong addiction had been born. For my 11th birthday I got an even bigger tapestry in an attempt to keep me occupied!
Over the next few years I transferred onto Cross Stitch, although still love tapestry as well to this day. 25 years on and the evidence of my love can be seen in every room of my house, on the walls of relatives houses, unframed kits in draws and at Christmas when every picture is exchanged for a Christmas Cross Stitch.
I have literally lost count of the number of kits I have done personally but I have loved every one. I have always wanted to have a store selling Cross Stitch but even more importantly share the many hours of enjoyment it can bring. After a life changing few years I decided that the time had come to pick up that dream I had as a ten year old girl, stood in Chippys dreaming of owning a store like that one day, and make it reality. Of course the world has moved on in 25 years and so The Cross Stitch Cottage is an online business but we work hard to make the experience friendly and welcoming – much like my experience 25 years ago!
We are family run and we are here to help you. We offer a unique ‘find it’ service to help you find the perfect kit. Through our blog we will share our favourite kits, our own work, some tutorials and much more. We are always open to suggestions too, so let us know what we can do to help you!
